How do I get involved in triathlon?
Email: This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it

Ramsey Triathlon Club ( RTC) organise lots of training( inc. swim/runs & run/bike/runs) and have weekly training for all three disciplines. See the forum for planned events listed on this website.

Who runs RTC?

A small committee of active members decide policy and direction, but the growing membership is the driving force behind our success.

How do I join RTC?

You don’t have to join the club straightaway. Come along to a training session or talk to other members and get an idea of what triathlon’s all about. At any point contact the membership secretary Ramsey Richardson, who will give you all the necessary info to join the Isle of Man’s No.1 tri club! Is there a social life outside triathlon?

There is with RTC. Our plan is to meet every last Friday of the month at the Trafalgar Hotel, Quayside, Ramsey. (9.00pm) Where we can discuss team tactics at great length. Till 9.05pm!
What equipment and kit do I need to get started?
Nothing too fancy to start with. Swim gear, a roadworthy bike (preferably a road bike but a mtb is ok), bike helmet (mandatory) and running kit with a good pair of running shoes. Don’t worry about wetsuits at this early stage unless you are aiming for Olympic or Ironman events.

What costs are involved?

You do not need to shell out thousands to get involved! Your main outlay will be your bike. Expect to pay between £400.00 - £2000.00 for a decent road bike. (See http://www.ebay.co.uk/ dozens of second hand bikes.) Also remember that races cost money to organise so there is a small matter of entry fees! These vary considerably from £15.00 for local sprint events to £50.00 - £70.00 for Olympic and as much as £240.00 - £280.00 for Ironman events.

How fit do I need to be?

In good general health and moderately fit. Don’t think you need to come in to the sport super-mega fit. But a basic level of training will help you in when you join our training groups which in turn will put you in good shape for racing.

How much training do I need to do?

Two –three times a week will be plenty to start with. A general build-up of endurance takes time and fitness will come with enjoying your training with other members.

How intense are club-training sessions?

RTC training sessions are always organised around ALL levels of ability that turn up on any given day. Once you join RTC, you have full access to training advice and forum to post your question so experienced athletes can share their knowledge and help where they can.

What distances are involved in triathlon races?

The most common terms you will see are Super Sprint, Sprint, Olympic, Half Ironman 70.3, and Ironman. Super Sprint 400 metres swim, 6.2 miles bike, and 1.5 miles run.
Sprint 750 metres swim, 12.4 miles bike, and 3.1 miles run.
